Shield
The demi-pegasus alludes to and commemorates the badge of the former 28th Division Aviation. The arch symbolizes aerial protective surveillance and the keystone in the arch refers to Pennsylvania, the unit's home state.
Crest
The crest is that of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 28th Aviation Battalion on 25 October 1965. It was redesignated for the 104th Aviation Regiment effective 1 October 1987, with the blazon and symbolism revised. It was amended to revise the symbolism and delete the Army National Guard crest for West Virginia on 5 March 2009.
